Fake Bake - Bland to Tanned - £9.99

Fake Bake Lotion for New Look – This is the first collaboration between a fake-tan brand and a high street fashion store (remember, you heard it here first Trends and Tricks. It contains a very low percentage of DHA so is perfect for beginners. The colour lasts for 2 -3 days and is aimed at teenagers from 13-up as the tan as the effect is not too dark and fades well – all for under £10. Another bonus is that it has a colour guide, which is great for first-time teenage tanning. To build up colour I recommend re-applying after three days.

Fake Bake Flawless Tan - £20.00

Fake Bake Flawless Tan – This is a fast-drying, non-sticky formula (ideal for men as it won’t stick to pesky hairs). The colour is not too dark – golden, in fact – and very natural looking, I found it faded really well and it lasted a very respectable 3-4 days. This works in the same way as a spray tan but it is in liquid form, so I recommend using a mitt for application (which is included in the kit). Oh, and what’s more the fragrance is really mild. I have to say, with this new addition I think Fake Bake are really upping their game.

He-Shi Express Liquid Tan - £20.00

Everyone is talking about He-Shi as they have amazing at-home products. This tan was their first product to launch six years ago and is so easy to use. Using a mitt you only have to use a small amount of product as a little goes a long way – impressively, I got four full-body tans out of one small bottle. It did not smell, has a natural-looking golden guide colour which allowed me to Tan and Go, which makes it different to other lotions. The liquid formulation allows for easy application and I found my tan to be even and it faded very well. I recommend you buy the mitt as it makes application very easy and allows you to achieve a perfect tan, without the hand stainage. It was recently voted Best At-home Product by Cosmopolitan magazine.

Xen-Tan Dark Lotion Absolute Luxe - £34.95

1 review

This is four years in the making and the darkest tan on the market, recommend for people with olive skin tones, the colour is deep and golden but without being orange (fair skin tones should steer clear, though). This product contains enriching ingredients such as ginko biloba, green tea extract, aloe vera and shea butter, so it leaves skin feeling hydrated and fresh. I recommend you use this product before you go to bed, so that it has enough time to develop and you can wash off the guide colour in the morning. This is a big hit with Latin dancers – Strictly Come Dancing take note.

St Tropez Lotion - £25.00

This is the ultimate tanning lotion and the first to take the tanning world by storm nearly 13 years ago. Loved by many celebrities around the world and the longest lasting tan (it contains a high percentage of DHA), it is very hydrating and moisturising on the skin. St. Tropez Bronzing Lotion last for 7-10 days which makes it perfect if you are going away on holiday. This product is easy to apply and dries quickly as well. You have to apply this product the night before you go to bed and I would not recommend that you wear it out as you will look slightly off-colour and muddy (so not a good look). A word of advice: you can’t Tan and Go with a lotion.
