Laura Mercier, founder of her world-famous make-up brand of the same name, chats to The Tantalist about her take on tans and trends.

Do you think bronzers are great to enhance your look? if so why?

Every one needs to feel a little St Tropez fabulous from time to time and I think that nothing does the trick like a bronzer. Both bronzers and self-tan are both quite intimidating products because they can look insincere when applied incorrectly or with a heavy hand. My tip is: Less is more

What bronzers in your range would you recommend for light, medium and dark Tantones?

There are several types of bronzers in my range; powders, gels, stick, creams and liquids – all great to achieve different effects. I think the simplest way to add some colour is to add a few drops of liquid bronzer to your foundation and apply, especially if you have a light skin tone. For medium and darker skin tones I would suggest a powder – apply by taking a large fluffy powder brush and swirl it round the product. Tap off the excess and lightly brush where the sun naturally hits your face: the top of your cheekbones, tip of your chin, bridge of your nose and on your forehead at the temples and hair line.

What’s the new Make up trend this season?

Summer 2010 is a celebration of the outdoors with longer, warmer days so I think that a vibrant, healthy glow is synonymous with the sunny season. Throughout the SS10 shows, skin was golden and glowed with a healthy radiance while the hair was simple worn either straight or wavy.

Do you think Self -tanning has become more Fashionable?

Most definitely. There are so many fantastic and safer ways available to tan, rather than opting for sun exposure or sun beds – I think some men and women feel more confident and more liberated to show off their skin when they have a tan.

What make-up do you recommend using when using Self- tan?

You should consider changing your products seasonally. In the warmer months, a lighter foundation such as a tinted moisturiser may be a more preferable choice, and ours has an SPF, so it is more protective. When using self-tan on your face, I would suggest a tinted moisturiser as it has more transparency, it will add a complimentary ‘believability’ to the upgrade in tone you may of chosen to ‘fake”’

What makeup look is hot right now?

My range is quite natural and focuses on the flawless skin but berry lips – this is my prediction of what is going to be really big.

What makes your brand different from other make up brands?

I perfected the flawless face. I started the trend of primers – I then created make up based on each individuals expectations and requirements.
