Interview date
November 5th 2010
Vogue's Beauty & Health Director, Nicola Moulton, reports in from the magazine's headquarters to talk beauty tips and tricks with The Tantalist. Over to you, Nicola...
Do you use self-tan products? If so what brands do you use?
I love Sisley’s Self-Tanning Spray. Some people find it nerve-wracking to use because it’s colourless, but I can honestly say I’ve never had a bad result with it. It’s essential to exfoliate to within in an inch of your life beforehand though – I love Clarins Exfoliating Body Scrub, it’s so satisfyingly grainy.
What Make up brand do you swear by?
A real mixture!Creme de la Mer for tinted moisturiser, Nars for blusher and eye shadows, Max Factor for mascara and Becca for lip gloss, And a bit of Chanel too – their foundations, blushers and nail varnishes are all so good.
Do you feel tanning has become more fashionable?
I think it’s become more ubiquitous. It used to be a summer-only thing, but now it’s something women do year-round – I think the daily self-tanning lotions played a big part in that, as it’s easier to sustain a bit of colour rather suddenly going from deathly pale to fabulously bronzed.
Did you go to any shows at LFW? What shows did you enjoy the most?
My favourite show was Erdem this season. It was just so magical, in a marquee in the middle of Bloomsbury Square – the girls looked like wood nymphs with their beautifully braided hair, and of course Erdem’s designs are incredible – some of his prints are completely mesmerising.
Do you think the days of the over-dark tans are over?
I hope so! Anything more than gently sun-kissed just looks wrong to me.
Do you have anything exciting happening that you want to share with us?
The December issue of Vogue has just come out and there’s a special ipad version available which we’re all really excited about. It’s been so fantastic to be able to bring some of the incredible shoots to life. I urge everyone to download it now!
Name one item of makeup you can’t live without?
Nars Orgasm blush.
Name one fashion accessory you could not be without?
Brown elastic hair bobbles from Boots. My hair literally goes up into a pony tail and down again about a thousand times a day, so I keep stashes of them everywhere – on my desk, in my bag, by my bed, by my kitchen sink…
What do you think the new beauty trends will be next year?
We’re in for a glamorous, colourful season – a real change from last season’s pared down beauty.
What are you doing after this interview?
Tidying my desk! It’s a bit out of control with all the products and press releases, so I’m going to spend a few hours going through everything – and hopefully tidy up in the process!
Cab or Tube?
Cab every time – but bus over tube.
