If skin this season were to fall into one over-arching trend it would be this: pale, pale and paler. As the shows in New York, London and Milan have proved, there has been a more a gothic approach to skin finishing for Autumn/Winter ‘12, and the Paris collections are no different and, in fact, are positively ghostly in comparison. At Viktor & Rolf the moon played a big part in the story of the collection, meaning only one thing for skin: pale but beautifully finished, to reflect the (moon)light as the models walked down a winding silver path that acted as a catwalk. Yohji Yamamoto’s ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’- inspired show featured dip-dyed ends of hair and black lips, also set against the whitest of skin for a truly eerie effect. And that wasn’t all. Hussein Chalaayan, Lanvin, Maison Martin Margiela, Haider Ackermann: they were all singing the same tune. Sure, the wild west theme at Isabel Marant called for swathes of bronzer, but at shows even like Christian Dior, pale skin reigned supreme.
