“Well gel”. Yes, it is a phrase made famous from hit TV show, The Only Way Is Essex, but it is also the texture that everyone is talking about with regards to self-tan. Sisley have had one as part of their range for some years now, but L’Oréal Paris and St.Tropez are getting in on the action of gel-formulated products, but with a different focus. St Tropez, the much-celebrated brand now includes the Self-Tan Gel as part of its extensive range of products for a hydrated streak-free, golden finish, whilst L’Oréal’s Hydra Energetic Moisturising Gel gives an instantly healthy look thanks to its sun-gel technology that melts into the skin. But who is their target market? Well, rather surprisingly, it’s men. Whilst not wanting to alienate female counterparts, there is something to be said for the fact that gel formulas are ideal for men because they effortlessly glides through any facial hair and rough skin to settle evenly onto the complexion. There is something to be said about the male beauty consumer, too. Why should men feel like they can’t have as healthy and glowing skin as women on a day-to-day basis. Tantalist HQ (men included) give a big thumbs up to this new focus in the tanning market. It has been a long time coming, we say.
