And so it is that the new season has come and gone in the blink of an eye, with Autumn/Winter ‘12 taking a whirlwind tour of New York, London, Milan and Paris. Looking back at the weeks just gone, it’s now possible to take a step back and see the over-arching trends that have emerged – and pick which ones we will be testing and trialling at Tantalist HQ. The most prevailing has to be the gothic mood that descended over the shows this season, calling for pale but illuminated skin. To best achieve this look, make-up artists were steering away from self-tan but rather opting for shimmering creams that brought skin to life, such as the St Tropez Illuminators and MAC Cosmetic’s Strobe Cream. Take note though, this trend is anything but sombre: it’s sultry, romantic and, above all, alluring. Take the crystallised dimension of skin at Chanel, the brilliance of the body at Jil Sander, the ethereal quality of the skin at Marc Jacobs, or the vintage charm of the models at PPQ. These shows call out to those of us who want skin to be perfected and flawless and who for the cooler season want to hold off on bronzing the skin. In the topsy-turvy world of fashion however, having just digested the winter trends, summer is only around the corner, so watch this space for the Tantalist’s news on how to make skin look its best both on and off the beach.
